Clarinet Reed Making

Even the best profiler will not guarantee perfectly balanced reeds, this is due to the fact that each piece of cane is variable and unique.  Thus the hand balancing required will vary from reed to reed. Well made reeds shouldn’t require any more balancing than typical commercial reeds, and they typically require less.

An overview of different balencing techniques is beyond the scope of this site, and well covered elsewhere.  Whichever method has served you best in the past will translate nicely to hand made reeds.  In fact, I have noticed that balancing work done on good hand made reeds seems to be more effective and longer lasting.
